Vincenzo DiFiore (1870-1904)

Facts:

• 1870- Vincenzo DiFiore was born November 14, 1870 in Bagheria, Sicily, son of Silvestre DiFiore (1835) and Cristina Scaduto (1842).

• Prior to 1903- Married Salvatrice "Kate" Fazzino (1877-1981)

• Children- born in Bagheria, Sicily

• 1903- Vincenzo DiFiore (33) and "Salvatora Fassino" (26), both able to read and write with their daughter, Cristina DiFiore (5 months) sailed from Palermo, Sicily aboard the SS Nord America on July 30, 1903; arriving at Ellis Island in the port of New York August 11, 1903. The passenger manifest indicate they arrived with $8.00 and were joining his brother Cosimo at 169 Thompson St, New York City.

• Vincenzo DiFiore worked as a pasta maker at a "Macaroni Manufacturer" on 14th Street on the east side of Manhattan.

• 1904- just 13 months after arriving in America, Vincenzo drown on September 4, 1904, in an the Hudson River. Vincenzo's wife, Salvatrice was 5 months pregnant at the time. This is the first tragedy that the family would experience. (Details of the drowning will be in a separate blog)

• Salvatice DiFiore and her daughter Cristina would return to Bagheria, Sicily to live with her mother.

• 1905- In January, Salvatrice would give birth to their son. He was to originally be named Silvestre, after his grandfather, but was named Vincenzo due to the recent death of his father.

• 1907- "Salvatice Faszino" (30) and her children Cristina DiFiore (4) and Vincenzo (2) returned to America aboard the SS Principe Di Piemonte from Palermo, Sicily on June 21, 1907; arriving in the port of New York on July 1, 1907. The manifest would record that she arrived with $24 with the intention of joining her husband Cosimo DiFiore at 133-135 Houston St, New York. It is believed that Cosimo was incorrectly recorded as Salvatrice's husband and father of her children to overcome and immigration concerns regarding a widow with 2 children entering the country.
