Silvestre DiFiore (1835-1912)

Facts:

• 1835- Born January 6, 1835, at midnight at his parent's home in Bagheria, Sicily, the son of Giacomo DiFiore (25) a "Campagnolo" (peasant farmer) and Maria Giangrasso (23). He was baptized the next day on January 7, 1835. His birth record indicates appeared before the vital records officer, who was also the Mayor on January 7, 1835 at 8:00 p.m. to report the birth and name of his son, Silvestre. It was required the newborn be physically present for identification by the Mayor for the "Atto di Nascita" or birth act.

• Nickname- Silvestro

• Profession believed to be miller.

• 1860- Silvestre DiFiore married (Maria) Cristina Scaduto (1842).

- Maria Cristina Scaduto, daughter of Giuseppe Scaduto (28), a Borgese (middle class) and Rosa Paladino (22) was born in Bagheria, Sicily at the home of her parents on February 26, 1842 at 8:00 p.m and was baptized the next day on February 27, 1842.

• 1902- Silvestre DiFiore (65) and Cristina (60) arrived in America with their daughter, Rosa (22), in June 1902. Silvestre DiFiore and Cristina Scaduto travelled with daughter, Rosa DiFiore, departing from Palermo on May 27, 1902 aboard the SS Trojan Prince; arriving at Ellis Island on June 14, 1902. They arrived with $9.00 and the intention of joining family members (Silvestre- his son, Giacomo; Cristina- her son, Andrea; Rosa- her brother, Cosimo)

• 1911- Maria Cristina Scaduto, a married housewife, age of 69 years, 4 months and 28 days, dies in a tenement at 160-162 Sullivan St, New York City, home of her daughter, Rosa DiFiore-Colombo, on October 28, 1911 about 6:00 p.m. due to "organic cardiopathia." She is buried at Calvary Cemetery.

• 1912- Silvestro DiFiore (77), occupation "business," died in an Italian hospital on Houston St. on April 11, 1912 about 10:00 a.m. due to "pulmonary edema following chronic nephritiis." He had been at the hospital for 10 days. He was buried in Calvary Cemetery.
