Matteo DiFiore (1883-1946)

Facts:

• Born: 1883, in Bagheria, Sicily, son of Silvestre DiFiore (1835) and Cristina Scaduto (1842).

• Nickname- Matthew

• 1900- sailed to America on SS Trojan Prince on December 3, 1900, arriving on December 21, 1900. The passenger register lists him as a single, 17, unable to read or write. He was one of the first groups processed at Ellis Island. Matteo arrived with $10.00 and joining his brother who lived at 267 Elizabeth St., New York City.

• 1906- Matteo DiFiore (22) married Rosie Limole (17) on June 14, 1906 by an Alderman at City Hall in Manhattan.

• Children: all born in New York City

• 1917- Naturalized citizenship.

• 1920- Census data: indicates Matthew as a baker who speaks English, can read and write, living with his wife and 3 sons who were born in New York. The resided at 219 Bleecker Street.

• 1935- Family moved to North Bergen Township, New Jersey

• 1940- Census information, a baker at a bakery shop, residing in North Bergen, New Jersey

• 1946- Died on April 1, 1945
