Giacomo (John) DiFiore (1861)

Facts:

• 1861- Giacomo (John) was born in Bagheria, Sicily, son of of Silvestre DiFiore (1835) and Cristina Scaduto (1842).

• 1886- His first wife (name unknown) died during the birth of Silvestro DiFiore (1886)

• Giacomo married his second wife Grazia (Grace) La Rosa in Bagheria. All their children were born in Bagheria.

• Children: Born in Bagheria, Sicily

• 1901- Giacomo's first arrival in America. Giacomo, 29, a married merchant, who was able to read and write and a resident of Bagheri sailed from Naples aboard the SS Sicilia on June 29, 1901, arriving at the port of New York July 15, 1901. This was the first time passengers were processed at Ellis Island. He arrived in America with $10.00 and the intention of meeting his brother Giuseppe (266 Elizabeth St).

• Between the years of 1902 and 1909, and considering the ages of his children, Giacomo was considered a "bird of passage," traveling back and forth between Italy and America.

• 1909- Silvestro, at 24, would come to America alone in July and was recorded living with his Uncle Cosimo's family according to the 1910 census.

• 1902-1909- Giacomo DiFiore spent the 7 years in America.

• 1910- Giacomo, 47, sailed from Palermo aboard the SS Regina D'Italia on January 10, 1910, arriving at Ellis Island on January 24, 1910, with $40.00 and the intention of joining his son "Silvestri DiFiore (133 W Houston) who was currently living with Cosimo and working at Cosimo's bakery. Giacomo's profession was listed as a stone cutter. It was noted that he had a "hernia inguinal complete right side."

• 1910- Grazia La Rosa, 40, accompanied by her children (Rosalia, 8; Vincenzo, 4; Giuseppe, 3) saled from Palermo aboard the SS Regina D'Italia on April 10, 1910. Gicchino and Santo remain in Bagheria. Grzia arrived with $40.00 and the intention of joining her husband (190 Bleecker St.)

• 190 Bleecker St- DiFiore Residence.: Silvestre DiFiore and Cristina Scaduto (1906), Matteo DiFiore (1906), Rosa (1909), Giacomo (1910)

• 1920 Census- "John" DiFiore, 58, is a salesman for Cosimo's bread bakery living with his wife Grace, 50, and children: Jack, 27, a polisher at a piano factory; Rose, 18, a stenographer at an embroidery factory; Vincent, 14, and Joseph, 12. They were residing at 9-11 Delancey St.
