Silvestre DiFiore (1835-1912) married Maria Cristina Scaduto (1842-1911) in 1860 in Bagheria, Sicily

Silvestre was born at his parent's home on January 6, 1835 at midnight and was baptized the next day, January 7, 1835. The birth record indicates that his father, Giacomo DiFiore, appeared before the vital records officer (the Mayor of Bagheria) on January 7, 1835 at 8:00 p.m. to report the birth and name of his son, Silvestre. It was required that the newborn be physically present for identification by the Mayor.

The spelling of his name, Silvestre appears on his birth record, his American immigration passenger list, but was spelled Silvester on his daughter Rosa's death certificate. He was commonly referred to as Silvestro, the name and spelling that appears on his death certificate and on the marriage certificates of his children- Cosimo, Matteo and Rosa.

It is believed that Silvestre was a miller by profession.

Maria Cristina Scaduto was the daughter of Guiseppe Scaduto (1816), a "Borgese" (a person of the middle class) by profession and Rosa Paladino (1820). She was born in her parent's home on February 26, 1842, at 8:00 p.m. and was baptized the next day, February 27, 1842. The birth record indicates that her father, Guiseppe Scaduto, appeared before the vital records officer (the Mayor of Bagheria) on February 27, 1842 at 3:00 p.m. to report the birth and name of his daughter, Cristina.

The spelling of Cristina appears on her birth record, with slight variation on her American immigration passenger list ("Cristinia") and as recorded on the marriage certificates of her children Cosimo and Matteo. The name Maria Cristina was a popular name in the Scaduto family and she was commonly referred to as Maria Cristina (her death certificate and marriage certificate of her daughter Rosa).

Silvestre arrived in New York City on June 14, 1902, followed by Maria Cristina on July 19, 1906.
